The winning building in the built environment category of the Architecture Award is the Harmonia office building. The building was designed by r Architectural Company (Paris, France/São Paulo, Brazil) and completed in 2011.
The criteria for judging the built environment category are: buildings, engineering or urban planning projects built within the past two years that can meet sustainable living and future requirements. The winner will receive a prize of 10,000 euros.
French-Brazilian architect R was commissioned to design a multi-functional office building. The client's requirement was that the internal layout of the building should be flexible and versatile.
The Harmonia office building has a plant facade. The walls of the facade are covered with a thick layer of plants, which acts like a skin for the building. This is a concrete wall with holes drilled in it and plants planted there.
The project's hydropower system was built with energy in mind, using low-tech materials such as a simple irrigation system and new water treatment equipment. In addition, a large rainwater reuse system in the building provides a good thermal environment for the building and can store a large amount of water without building expensive water storage facilities. The role of green roofs is very wide: bringing fresh air to the building, improving the air environment inside the building, storing a small amount of rainwater, and guiding excess rainwater into the ground. The stored rainwater can be used to supply toilets and irrigation systems.
In addition, the building was shut down during construction. On this day, an event was held in this unfinished building - a public art exhibition. In this exhibition, workers and artists come together to talk and talk with each other.
